Oxidation State

When I wrote this piece, I found myself constantly studying for Chemistry 121. One of the most interesting general chemistry topics is how we measure the charge of elements and the way the charge evolves as the elements contact other elements.

The piece begins with a jumpy string motif; as the motif finds its way from the high to low strings, it represents the chaotic, excited nature of an electron cloud. Eventually, a melody is introduced; this melody soars over the electron cloud line, representing how this excited chaos resembles chemical compounds.
